ABOUT IPAMORIN
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂) developed as a growth hormone secretagogue. It acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, GHS-R1a, the same receptor through which endogenous ghrelin stimulates growth hormone release from the pituitary.
What distinguished it in the original characterisation was selectivity: in the reported models it released growth hormone with a potency comparable to earlier secretagogues while leaving ACTH and cortisol at control levels. RESEARCH BACKGROUND
The 1998 paper in the European Journal of Endocrinology that introduced ipamorelin characterised it as the first growth hormone secretagogue with a selectivity profile comparable to that of GHRH. In the reported models it released growth hormone with potency and efficacy similar to GHRP-6, while doses far above the effective range did not raise ACTH or cortisol above control levels.
That selectivity is why ipamorelin remains a standard reference compound in growth hormone secretagogue research, and it has since been used widely as a comparator in studies of ghrelin receptor pharmacology and gastrointestinal motility.
